As I write these words in August of 1996 the KnowSys Project is mostly still a dream. Perhaps a few words about my background and the early history of this project will help you understand what its all about. I have always been a seeker. In the late sixties, when I was 18 years old I had some personal experiences that began a quest to understand the essence of what life was about. When I began my studies at UC Berkeley in 1970 I sought to integrate my personal spititual experiences with a scientific understanding of the objective basis of how the human mind/body/spirit functions. My search landed me in courses ranging from neurophysiology and primate social behavior to existential philosophy and zen buddhism. My frustration with the isolated views taken by these disparate disciplines led me to major in a new field at that time; Interdisciplinary Studies.
