SUBJECT: The Human Potential
SUMMARY: An overview of the many approaches to what is commonly called
"enlightenment". We also look at spiritual powers and other supra-normal
phenomena and the modern human potential movement.
There are many subjects which fall into the category of the human potential.
We are generally referring here to a concept which goes by many names,
all of which imply a state beyond the ordinary condition of being human.
Here are a few of the names given to what is perhaps most commonly called
"enlightenment":
Nirvana (in Buddhism)
Satori (in Zen Buddhism)
Samadhi or Moksha (in Yoga)
Wu or The Ultimate Tao (in Taoism)
Cosmic Consciousness (Richard Bucke and others)
The Kingdom of Heaven (in Christianity)
Fana or Tawhid (in Sufism)
Self-Realization (a term popularized by western yogic traditions)
