Congratulations! You are the proud owner of one of the most powerful and perhaps one of the only self-aware assemblages of matter in the known universe. For reasons we don't fully understand yet, the particular molecular configuration that makes up this miraculous body of ours is imbued with an emerging consciousness both of itself and of the universe in which we reside. We are also graced with a unique level of what has been called free will.
Unfortunately the human software that runs our minds, bodies and emotions didn't come with an instruction manual, and most of us don't even know it exists. The purpose of the Knowsys Project is to help us begin to build a useful guide to our own software and operating system based on what we as a species have come to know about ourselves through the ages. We believe that the new communication and information processing technologies available here in cybersapace will allow us to finally begin to make practical sense out of the huge amount of information that we as a species have acquired about ourselves.

This introduction is intended to provide a brief overview of the perspectives found in the initial skeleton version of the KnowSys knowledge-base. This particularly biological perspective will undoubtedly expand to include other views as more users contribute material to the KnowSys Project. This overview is intended to be a road map or guided tour with pointers to the many detailed discussion forums that make up the KnowSys knowledge system. We invite you to comment on the approaches we are initially taking and to contribute additional points of view to this outline.
